In line with National Poetry Day’s theme of “Vision”, we have been writing poem’s inspired by the poem “Granny Is” by Valerie Bloom. We wrote poems about important people in our lives and used metaphors to help create an image in the listener’s minds about the kind of people they are. We then shared our poems with the rest of the class.

We had some fantastic improvised drama today. We were acting out a parent’s meeting between Bradley’s mum and Mrs Ebble. This is based upon the book ‘There’s a boy in the girls bathroom’ by Louis Sachar. (Note the pencil case handbag!)

We learnt about the different blood cells and we then created artwork inspired by this

#Adventurous #Connected

Today, we had the opportunity to look at a heart. We learnt more about the structure and purpose of the heart. We even got to touch it! Jessica said it was her childhood dream to touch a heart and I’m so glad we were able to help her fulfil it!

We are writing informational texts to inform people how to live happily and healthily. Here, we have utilised our summarising skills to gather information from texts to write a script about an aspect of keeping healthy. We will use this information in our informational texts.

On Monday 19th October, Foxglove went on an #adventure to Carymoor Environmental Centre to support the term's Quest: 'How Can We Be Happy and Healthy in Our Community?". Here, we saw a ‘waste transfer site’ and learnt how waste from households is brought into the new facility, bulked up and then transported to an energy from waste plant where it is converted into energy. Children also had a tour of the site and looked at the industrial compost operation, pollution control from the landfill site and learnt how Carymoor has transformed the old landfill site into a species-rich nature reserve. We learnt about the importance of recycling and even made recycled paper bracelets! You can find out more about the centre by going to:
