Supporting Physical Development

What is Motor or Physical Development?

A child’s motor development involves them being able to use their body and all of its parts. They become stronger and more able to move around as they develop physically.

A child’s motor and physical development depends on four things:

  • The development of the brain and body parts
  • The control a child has of each body part
  • How a child learns about their body
  • Learning to use both sides of their body

As a child learns how to move each new part of their body, their brain continues to develop. It starts with lifting the neck to eventually crawling and walking.

Each new physical milestone your child reaches is helping them develop fully into an independent adult.
