At The Mill, Children are encouraged to be unique individuals and are inspired by caring, friendly practitioners who have the best interests of the child at the heart of everything they do.

The Mill offers two amazing rooms;  The Barley room accommodates younger children, up to the age of three. In this room, with its own kitchen and sleep room, we offer a sensory, cosy home like atmosphere. Children experience excellent outside provision, in their own garden, as well as Forest School sessions with qualified leaders. We focus particularly on the prime areas of learning as well as promoting independence and perseverance.

The Granary room is for children over two and a half years and offers self-selecting resources appropriate for children of this age. Here, children access a role-play and storytelling room as well as having experience of a wealth of exciting opportunities including Yoga, Forest School and Write Dance and football.

The Mill is part of St Vigor and St John Church School. It is led and managed by the Headteacher, the Senior Leadership Team that includes the Nursery Manager and Early Years Lead and the local governing body. We frequently use the hall, library, adventure playground, small wood and large field. We play and learn alongside Reception children in their playground throughout the year and are always welcome on our many visits to the class. In addition to this Suzanne Cox, EYFS lead, works also in the nursery. Suzanne works closely with experienced nursery practitioners to embed exciting, purposeful group times which incorporate all aspects of the EYFS developmental Matters, including letters and sounds phase 1.

We consider ourselves to offer a holistic and caring environment, working as a team with Parents and Carers and other professionals. We are inclusive and welcome parental involvement, sharing diversity and different cultural backgrounds, to extend our children’s learning.

Our Team

The nursery team consists of 14 early years practitioners and 1 support staff.    Staff are employed on either full-time year round contracts or on a part-time term time only basis.  Our nursery practitioners are qualified to a level 3 minimum and are paediatric first aid trained.  We also frequently support apprentices or students. The Childcare Manager is qualified to Honours Degree level.  The Early Years Teacher works in both the nursery and St Vigor and St John Church School and has a degree in Primary Education.  The Deputy Manager is qualified to level 3.  The nursery also employs a part-time term time administrator.
