Building connections

Our school is privileged to have been able to build strong partnerships with several local businesses that significantly support our Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) opportunities.

The Earth Science Centre

The Earth Science Centre offers extensive resources that enhance our science curriculum, particularly for Year 3 students learning about rocks and fossils. In 2023, all teaching staff participated in a CPD session at the Earth Science Centre to learn how to better incorporate the centre's resources into their lessons when planning fieldwork in Geography. The Centre also provides talks, tours, and lesson support, offering students hands-on learning experiences that bring science to life. Year 3 also annually participate in a trip to the Earth science centre.

Downside School

Downside School contributes significantly to our students' education through various activities. For example, in the summer of 2024, all children at our school participated in a 'languages day' at Downside School. Additionally, they run numerous sporting events and days which our classes attend, and we use their swimming facilities to further enhance our students' physical education. Downside also allow us to use their auditorium for our ‘SVSJ Performing Arts Extravaganza’ where individuals and groups from SVSJ perform musical, dance or acting skills.

Rowan Park Care Home

Rowan Park Care Home fosters valuable social skills and community service in our students through tea and coffee mornings. During these visits, children chat with residents, serve tea and coffee, and help with washing up. This interaction teaches them important social skills and the value of community service.

The Forum

The Forum in Bath often supports our school by offering their venue as a resource. Year 6 students perform their end-of-year play on their stage, with Forum staff supporting those who do not wish to act by teaching them how to operate the lights and sound. Additionally, our students participate in the Dance Umbrella at the Forum, and it has also been used in previous years for Year 3 where children learned about shadows in science. This summer the Forum also donated their old stage which now forms part of our outdoor learning space in school.

Bath Rugby Club

Bath Rugby Club provides unique opportunities for our students to learn rugby from professional players. They visit the school to teach rugby and also invite students to participate in events at their grounds and watch games. This fosters a strong connection between sports and education, providing our students with enriching experiences beyond the classroom.

Bath astronomers

Bath astronomers have helped us provide a 'astronomy night' for pupils from Bryony, Dogwood and Foxglove class supporting us in exploring different aspects of their science curriculum. A particular highlight for children has been the space dome!

Farrington Gurney Methodist Church

It has been wonderful to establish a relationship with Farrington Methodist Church who has been able to offer trips for children across the school from Arum to Gentian. These visits have included an 80th Year D-Day immersive learning opportunity where children met evacuees, saw historical artefacts, and experienced what it was like to enter an Anderson shelter, Easter activities and celebrations and other trips through out the year.

Glastonbury festival

Additionally, Glastonbury Festival offers financial support to our school by providing staff stewarding opportunities at the festival and making a payment in return. With this money, we were able to provide all children with a 'forest school/outdoor learning' hoodie for LOtC activities, ensuring that every student is well-equipped for outdoor learning experiences.

These collaborations significantly enhance our students' educational experiences and provide invaluable support for our LOtC activities.
