Term Three

Term Three - What makes a Super Story?

This term our Quest is 'What makes a Super Story?' We are going to be exploring the wonderful world of Julia Donaldson books to discover what makes a story engaging, memorable and exciting! We will look forward to sharing some of your favourite stories from home too.

You may have noticed, our role play has been transformed into a Gruffalo Wood and we have already enjoyed telling stories around the camp fire. We even had a visit from a mysterious guest, the children were fantastic detectives, putting together the clues to discover who had been! We look forward to sharing lots more of our learning adventures on Tapestry.

Phonics News

This term we will be introducing two new strategies to develop our fluency in reading. These are, choral and echo reading. We would encourage you to use these strategies at home with your child, to help improve their use of expression, confidence and comprehension through accurate modelling. Here is a little guide to help you understand more - please note, you will need to still sound talk and blend words prior to using choral or echo reading.

Choral reading - first, the adult reads the sentence out loud, using the correct expression, tone and speed, whist the child listens. Then you repeat the sentence, reading it together, whilst sweeping your finger under the text as you read.

Echo reading - as above, the adult models reading the sentence first. Then follow the sequence of 'I read, you read.' With the adult reading the sentence first, following under the text with your finger, followed by the child. Just like an echo!
